Dieng Plateau, the oldest Hindu temples in Java

Dieng Plateau, the oldest Hindu temples in Java - The lofty plateau of Dieng (2093 ASL) is peace home to some of the Hindu temples in Java Islands. Name Dieng comes from Di Hyang (= abode of the Gods) and it's thought that this area once the site of flourishing temple-city of priests.

Most of the temples were built between the 8th - 9th centuries, covered the highland plain, but with the mysterious depopulation of Central Java, this site, was abandoned and forgotten. The eight remaining temples are characteristic of early Central Javanese architecture : stark and quite squat. Until 1856 the archaeologist Van Kinsbergen drained the flooded valley around the temples and catalogued the ruins.

Dieng's beautiful landscape is the main reason to make the long journey to this region. Any number of walks across the volcanically active plateau, the marshy caldera of a collapsed volcano, mineral lakes, steaming craters or even the highest village in Java : Sembungan Village (2300 m ASL) that has awesome attractive sunrise seeing at Mount Sikunir.

If you want to go to Dieng and want to fully enjoying the beautiful landscape, scenery, sunrise, crater, temples, I recomended if you stay overnight at Dieng. Means, after you finished at Borobudur in the morning then you continued straight go to Dieng. So, please you make discuss with us before you make any booking hotels during you are in Yogyakarta for completelly visit Dieng Plateau.

Yogyakarta Culinary

Yogyakarta Culinary - Visiting Yogyakarta not complete if you do not hunt culinary, because one of the ways to identify with complete of tourist destination is exploring the culinary in place. Indeed, if we hunt culinary then let us not make your standard form of eating places, but the taste and feel of traditional Yogyakarta distinctive touch is what you will get.

You remain to choose according to your appetite and which has mood to you. Usually when you reach Yogyakarta, surely is GUDEG which we look for first time. Correct in Jakarta or other town, this food truly disperse everywhere and have become icon separate for town Yogyakarta and through this article you'd be invited circle to see that Yogyakarta not merely gudeg which searched for, there are many food type again that can invite your eat appetite. Enjoy the food in Yogyakarta truly preoccupy.

Perhaps there is a certain culinary available in swanky restaurant and well air-conditioned, but the traditional touch that complements the culinary certainly not as precise moment when we eat these culinary in its original place. Although you might encounter in your country just a cozy restaurant, but if you are in Yogyakarta really want to enjoy culinary specialties, so do not hesitate to try it.

Culinary dishes that I mention below are generally only found in Yogyakarta, if any in other cities it may not be the same, especially if it added about eating atmosphere. Some culinary Yogyakarta that we are trying to show :

a. Gudeg

Gudeg is a traditional Indonesian recipe, originally comes from Yogyakarta, Central Java. This traditional recipe is the most famous dish of jackfruit curry in combination with some eggs and chicken. Very delicious despite how it looks. Don't bother about the looks, it's not as appetizing as it taste. Believe me, once you've taste the dish, you'll be sell forever. Price from IDR 20 depend on the content of gudeg. The famous one is : Gudeg Yu Jum, and try at the first place she started, that place nearby Gadjah Mada University.
b. Klathak Satay

The mention of this sate themselves take on the term "klatak" natural meaning. The word is also taken of the sound 'klatak-klatak' of burning flesh.
Sate klathak derived from goat meat. In contrast to the satay in general that burned with a smear of soy sauce, satay klatak burned only with natural ingredients. Sate just smeared salt before being burned. However, now coupled with the garlic, hazelnut. Savory garlic flavor really seep into the satay. Do not forget, dip it in soy sauce served separately to add sweetness to savory satay. Soy sauce is made from tamarind water, lime leaves, palm sugar, and red onion.
Talk of price, quite cheap, which is IDR 20 K per-share.

b. Bakmi KADIN

The name "Kadin" selected noodle stall vendors located across the street from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Special Region of Yogyakarta whether intentional or accidental. Chamber of Commerce is also an abbreviation of the name Kasidin Karto owner and founder of the famous shop. Chamber of Commerce has been serving noodle fans since 1947, no wonder this one noodle stall in the category legend Yogyakarta.

c. Mangut Lele Mbah Marto  ( "dazed catfish" Mbah Marto)

The actual location of shops behind the Indonesian Art Institute campus, about 7 kilometers south of Yogyakarta city center.
Shop building was not like most stalls. More accurately described as a house used as a tavern. With the living room, the middle, and a terrace fitted with tables and chairs, buyers who come straight into the kitchen to take their own food demand. Various dishes - rice, vegetables, warm, Opor chicken, krecek, tamarind fierce, and of course the mainstay dazed catfish - served on a sling (halls) bamboo. Each was placed in a large pot.

In the kitchen, too, Mbah Marto, assisted numerous children and relatives, cooking food over a fire made from wood stove. Not surprisingly, the kitchen walls and roofs blackened by smoke. However, even with a dish and enjoy the atmosphere of the kitchen as it was, created a sensation for the buyer.

In addition to culinary above, there are several other distinctive culinary Yogyakarta, for example: BRONGKOS BU PADMO, SOTO KADIPIRO, AYAM GORENG SUHARTI, SOTO PAK MARTO - TAMANSARI, and many more

>>The Legend of King Boko

1. Main Gate
3. Pembakaran Temple
7. Kaputren
8. Caves
At the northern part from pendopo, isolated from the
Ratu Boko Gate
Ratu Boko Gate
rest of the site, lies two caves that were formed of sediment stones. The upper cave is called Gua Lanang (Male Cave) and the lower cave is called Gua Wadon (Female Cave).

King Boko is a legendary character known from popular folklore of Loro Jonggrang. This folklore connects the Ratu Boko Palace, the Durga statue in Prambanan temple (which is identified by local folklore as Loro Jonggrang), and the origin of the Sewu temple complex nearby. Prince Bandung Bondowoso loved Princess Loro Jonggrang, the daughter of King Boko, but she rejected his proposal of marriage because Bandung Bondowoso had killed King Boko and ruled her kingdom. Bandung Bondowoso insisted on the union, and finally Loro Jonggrang was forced to agree for a union in marriage, but she posed one condition: Bandung must build her a thousand temples in one night. He entered into meditation and conjured up a multitude of spirits (genies or demons) from the earth. They succeeded in building 999 temples. Loro Jonggrang then woke her palace maids and ordered them to begin pounding rice. This awoke the roosters, which began to crow. The genies, hearing the sound of morning, believed the sun was about to rise and so disappeared back into the ground. Thus the prince was fooled, in revenge he cursed the princess and turned her into a stone statue. According to the traditions, she is the image of Durga in the north cell of the Shiva temple at Prambanan, which is still known as Loro Jonggrang or Slender Virgin.

This palace was initially found by a Dutch arkeolog, HJ De Graaf in 17 century. At present, the complex consists of:

The first of three terraces is reached through a massive gateway built on two levels. On the western edge of this terrace is a high talud of soft white limestone. The second terrace, separated from the first by andesite wall, is reached through a gateway in paduraksa form consisting of three doors, a larger central one flanked by two of lesser dimensions. The third terrace, the largest, contains the richest concentrations of archaeological remains. It is read on the main gate Panabwara that was written by Rakai Panabwara, descendant of Rakai Panangkaran. He carved his name there in order to legitimate his authority of this palace.

2. Batu Putih Temple
Beyond the second row of gates on third terrace, on the north side of the plateau there's a structure similar to the base part of the temple with two terraces about 26x26 m in size. On the center of upper terrace is just an empty descending square hole. The function of that building probably as the crematorium to burn the corpses.
4. Paseban
On the plateau on third terrace, beside the Candi Pembakaran, there's also several square stone structure. On the structure there's some umpak or stone serve as the base of wooden column with hole to erect the pillars.
5. Pendopo
On the second terrace on the southeast side of the plateau, lies the pendopo (audience hall). The pendopo is a square stone enclosure surrounded with andesite stone wall with the small paduraksa entrance gates in north, west, and south side of the walled enclosure. In the center of this walled enclosure there's a stone base formed by two separated terraces, the terrace in the southern side is smaller than the north side one. This terrace served as the base and floor of the wooden structure since there's some umpak or stone serve as the base of wooden column with hole to erect the pillars.
6. Miniature Temples
On eastern side of pendopo on lower terrace, there is several andesite stone walled enclosure with paduraksa gate and gallery lead to the several pool within the walled enclosure. This structure is associated by local folks as kaputren (women's quarter), since the pool believed to be the pleasure garden for king and his concubines. One particular pool (or well) within the bath place is considered sacred by Hindu people called 'Amerta Mantana'. It is believed that the water of Amerta brings luck for anyone who uses it. Hindu people use it in Tawur Agung ceremony, one day before the Nyepi day, to support the achievement of self purify and to return the earth into her initial harmony. To the east of the pool there's two stone base structure, yet again probably the remains of wooden structure which only the stone base still remains.
8. Pool

The pendopo, the three temples, the pools and the kaputren are located on the south east. The existence of these buildings indicates the characteristic of a royal palace. Nowadays, the site’s name, the architect, and the function of the temple remain uncertain. Some people believe it was the former palace of ancient Mataram Kingdom or a fortress; other scholars interpret this site was a monastery. The other group presumes it was a place for rest and recreation. All of the opinions above were unclear, the local folks believe that this site was King Boko’s palace; the legendary character mentioned in Roro Jonggrang myths and named it after him.

Surakarta (Solo) Tour Package

Solo (international name : Surakarta) has several interested place to visit. The most popular destination in Solo are : Sukuh Temple, Ceto Temple, Waterfall Cemoro Sewu, Mangkunegaran Palace, Kraton Solo (Solo Palace). Trip to Solo need full day tour (from early morning until afternoon) because Yogyakarta - Solo takes 2 hours by car and Solo - temples takes 1.5 hours. I do recommend that you stay a night at Solo after Yogyakarta trip, so next day you can visit all destinations in Solo with relax - no rush hour to go back Yogyakarta.

a. Sukuh Temple
An unique temple explain human fertility with the art lover. When someone says a taboo, it really naif that says so. Besides, this temple is same popular in the art of lovemaking as a portrait of what is written in the book of Kamasutra. In this area also there is a beautiful stone relief about economic activity at that time : iron home industry.
Sukuh Tample

Sukuh built around the end of the glory days of Majapahit. Majapahit royal administrative center in the village Trowulan able to talk to this Sukuh. Borobudur temple, the Temple of Queen Boko, the kingdom of Demak was so from the glory of Majapahit. Borobudur temple when a religious ceremony, and temple Brahu was temple fpr cremation ash storage Hindus-Buddhists, but Sukuh we can say temple of fertility and temple art of lovemaking.

There is still much to be investigated about the relationship of this temple to temple in other countries, such as India affiliated Sangsekerta posts in Kamasutra book and the building of the Maya in Central America. Try also consider building Inca culture in Peru. Sukuh impossible when there is no relation with the culture of other countries. How is it possible in countries very distant, to create buildings and ornaments erostis almost the same as in Sukuh?

b. Ceto Temple
Cetho is a Hindu temple relics patterned end of Majapahit era (15th century). The first scientific report about him made by Van de Vlies in 1842. A.J. Bernet Kempers also do research about it. Excavation (trenching) for the purposes of reconstruction was first performed in 1928 by the Archaeological Department of the Dutch East Indies.
Cetho Temple

Under the circumstances when the rubble started to study, this temple has the age that does away with Sukuh. Location of the temple is located in the hamlet of Ceto, Gumeng Village, District Jenawi, Karanganyar. As a place of worship of Lord Shiva, the temple is decorated with statues phallusyang a symbol of Shiva. There is also a statue of Brawijaya V and his advisors and stone structure shaped phallus and yoni measuring two meters. Trapezoid-shaped main building is in the top terrace.
Cetho temple driver Yogyakarta

Before we arrive at Ceto Temple, we pass wide tea plantation that's very nice scenery. And in the corner of tea pantation there is a "house of tea" called NDORO DONGKER. That is really best place to enjoying tea plantation, rilex, fresh air, best tea to try (only tea - not milk tea), with old style house of tea.

b. Mangkunegaran Palace
Istana (palace) Mangkunegaran is a well known palace in Solo or Surakarta besides Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat. Mangkunegaran sites are located at the center area of the city. From outside, this palace is hidden from a high wall that was built surround the palace. As we are walking into the palace from the entrance door we will find a giant traditional Javanese building which is called as “Pendapa”. Three sets of “gamelan” are arranged neatly inside the pendapa. Once in a week (Wednesday at 10 a.m.), there is a dance performance held in this Pendapa. Next to the pendapa visitor may look around the exhibition room in the main building where private collections from the previous kings are kept and exhibited. There are jewelries, photos, weapon, accessories, and more collections displayed inside this room. Next to the exhibition room visitor will be guided to the places inside the main building like palace garden and dining room and meeting room. The last place to go is a room placed at the east side of the palace, where all the Mangkunegaran’s carriages are kept and treated.
Mangkunegaran Place

Istana Mangkunegaran (Mangkunegaran Palace) was built in 1757 by the first Mangkunegara or Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Mangkunegara I. The exact location of this palace is at Jalan Ronggo Warsito, Surakarta.
